It’s hard to find anything new to say that wasn’t covered in last night’s school committee meeting.  We covered a lot of ground in those three hours. [NEASC visit, School Libraries, Robotics, Math Curriculum, Budget, School Highlights, Grinspoon Excellence in Teaching, School Choice, Technology Improvement, Superintendent Evaluation Process, and our upcoming meeting with City Council]

It is worth noting though that we pushed really hard this week to move forward on the District Improvement Plan and the District Data Team, while also developing and defining our FY13 Budget.  The latest Draft of the DIP will be sent soon and then reviewed at the May 10 SC meeting.  We have customized a set specific and productive goals for our district for the next year that will have a very positive impact on student achievement.

I am very pleased to have a few extra days to build the next version of the FY13 Budget Draft and to make final decisions on decreases and/or position lay offs.  I will continue to stay in contact with Mayor Narkewicz next week and communicate with our ALT as needed to have final decisions communicated to those effected by April 23rd.

Over the break I will collect the application materials for the Bridge Street Principal position and we will continue the search process with the committee immediately upon our return from break.

Finally, I had the opportunity to meet with Bill Corwin from Clark School this morning and our transition process is moving along thoughtfully and systematically.

I’m planning to see The Merry Wives of Windsor tonight at the high school.  I will rest up Saturday and Sunday in preparation for my first run in the Boston Marathon.  I’ll be in Tuesday afternoon with sore muscles and healthy dose of pride.

Sincerely,

Brian L. Salzer, Ed.S.

Superintendent
