On June 24, 2011, the School Committee voted unanimously to offer the job of school superintendent to Brian Salzer, Business Manager and Acting Superintendent of the Marblehead public schools. Mr. Salzer was selected as one of four finalists out of a pool of 23 applicants. His previous experience includes seven years as a teacher, two as an assistant principal and 10 as a high school principal at schools in Wisconsin and Massachusetts. Mr. Salzer holds a bachelor’s degree in English and Education from the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the state university campus in Milwaukee.
Mr. Salzer met with city school leaders on July 5, 2011 to discuss salary negotiations and start date. Vice Chairwoman, Stephanie Pick expects to present a salary agreement in executive session with the School Committee on Thursday July 14th. All parties are confident that negotiations will be finalized shortly.
Dr. William Erickson will continue as Interim Superintendent and work to transition Mr. Salzer into his new role. The district is communicating with Mr. Salzer to schedule an earlier start date in August.
